About The Company

Shady Grove Log & Timber Builders is a new company built from the very different experiences of two men who share a love for the craft of log home building. Pat Clark started Clark’s Logworks in 1994 in Bozeman, Montana. His experience in complex roof systems, large-scale projects and smaller, simpler family-style homes utilizes the full potential of log engineering. Paul Kaszuba’s background in furniture making and boat building gives him an eye for artistry and an attention to detail. After the two worked together on large home, their friendship was solidified after Paul helped Pat complete his family’s third log home in Bozeman, Montana.

Shady Grove Log & Timber Construction is the product of two men that have a near religious devotion to the art of log home building.

In addition to their log projects, Paul and Pat are building a drift boat so that they can take clients and friends down Montana rivers where they can discuss philosophy of woodworking over fishing.

PAT CLARK

Patrick ClarkPatrick Clark is a third generation homebuilder on his father’s side, with a legacy of ship’s carpentry from his maternal grandfather. Pat has a degree in business and finance, but his log home career started in Jackson Hole, Wyoming where his work for a man who building his own log cabin rekindled his interest in home building. After catching construction fever, he graduated from the Sun Country School of Log Building in Timber, Oregon. Pat has built log homes in Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Pennsylvania and the Mid West, not including the four homes he has built for himself and his family.

PAUL KASZUBA

Paul KaszubaPaul’s career as a log builder started in 1996, when he worked as a log peeler in Bozeman, Montana. With a background in furniture making and boat building and bachelor’s degree in biology, the process of peeling each log gave him a new understanding of wood as a raw material. The realization that log homes settle until they reach a point of homeostasis made him aware of the dynamic characteristic of this raw material, and he was hooked. He moved quickly into building, where the complexity of the craft keeps him constantly engaged. Paul considers log home building an art akin to a beautiful piece of furniture, “It’s building an enormous piece of furniture that you live in and that keeps you warm and dry and cozy. It is the purest form of architecture.”
